after jailbreak cannot unlock pls help

i have updated dead iphone 3g to 4.1 and jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.6rc6 after jailbreak when i tried to add the ultrasn0w repo it shows a verification error a server name with the specified hostname could not be found.

What baseband is on your phone? go to setting, general, about and look all the way to the bottom and see what the modem firmware # is? this will dictate whether you can unlock it with ultrasn0w or not.

As for the error you receive, try to hook it up to a different network.
