I made a MacBook Pro purchase the other day, and my first Mac purchase ever. I can happily say that even with all the speculation of updated models coming soon, getting a great machine that can do what I want now is better than sitting on my hands.

I went with the:

MacBook Pro 15.4" 2.4 C2D Refurbished -- $2099
Apogee Duet -- $495
OWC 4gb RAM -- $98

Portable recording studio (hardware) for ~$3000. Not bad if you ask me. :D

So while everyone waits around for the inevitable updates, I'll be rockin' out some sweet tunes. Multi-touch? Cool... but necessary? Updated processor? Would be nice, but the current model more than handles the tasks that I use it for.

To those still waiting... I admire your patience. Soon you shall be the coolest kid on the block. I applaud you for continuing to hold out and remaining on the cutting edge. I, however, have some music to record.

Good Luck!

congrats on the new MBP!

I also think the update is going to be great, but not really necessary. My 2.2 MBP handles everything like a champ and the multi-touch pad is not something I'd miss!
