The back of my Macbook Pro was filled with stickers. I have just managed to remove it. It "feels" no more residue by touch. However, the sticker-covered area still has a different tone than the rest of the surface as in the attached picture.

I am not sure if it is because of some remaining sticky stuff deep in the matte surface of metal that cannot be cleaned by just rubbing the surface, or it is because of the oxidizing of the exposed surface that causes different colour tones.

Is there any way to fix that?

I would think the aluminum underneath the stickers was not exposed to UV light to the same extent as the rest... Probably with time it will even out a bit.

I also think it’s the effect of UV light, normal change in color with time, but preserved under the stickers.
I don’t know the answer to your problem, but I’d would point you to ask to a car mechanic, paint specialist; they know a lot of tricks and products to deal with this effect on cars. If there’s no solution, this kind of professional knows, better than computer aficionados.

Well, put stickers on it... then you have to live with the consequences when you take the stickers OFF.

I'd clean the surface with a very mild cleaner, then just "let it be".

No, as every human being, he has the right to obstinate in not bearing to live with the consequences.
He can put a specially made big sticker on it (just the “negative“ image) and wait some time and light to equilibrate coloration.
Just an idea

(Perhaps, after carefully cleaning, to apply some kind of wax for delicate objects could help to disguise the imperfection, something like this https://fiddlershop.com/collections/string-instrument-care/products/smith-classic-wax-polish There should be a similar product for fine metal objects).
