After sending Text, ringer and other sounds silenced

Have Iphone 5S with latest updates

As I type a text message, I hear the normal clicking sound. After a few characters, the clicking stops.
I can send the message.

HOWEVER-after sending the text, the ringer for the phone is shut off and I must restart the phone.

Very strange

I have ensured that all applications open are cleared/closed but the problem persists.

Any thoughts?

Try a hard restart. Hold down the home and power buttons together until the phone restarts.
