i'm running an emac 1gig with a aiport extreme and 160 gig seagate main hd. i think i did the update with the firewire port in use and now it's dead. i need help. this is so bad for me right now because i have media on that drive and i need to gain access to it. :(

please help.

Try resetting the PRAM. Turn off the computer, turn it on and immediately press Command(Apple)-Option-P-R. Hold them down until you hear the chime three times and let go.

Look at the Apple System Profiler to see what the OS is reporting on the FW port.

The OS could be turning the port off if it's a bus powered device.

Switch off the eMac. Open up the bottom of the computer (where the RAM is) and you'll see a little button on the logic board. Press that button ONCE, put the cover back on and restart the machine.

REMEMBER TO TOUCH THE METAL SHIELDING AROUND THE RAM COVER BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR FINGER ANYWHERE NEAR THE LOGIC BOARD.

YESSSSS!!!!!!
