I updated earlier tonight to 10.4.7 via the Software Update. Since then I've noticed a couple things. First of all, I cant hear online audio! Quicktime videos play audio online, but YouTube videos are silent, and songs on myspace pages are silent just to name a couple. How do I fix this?

Also, My 2.0ghz 2gb (self installed weeks ago) white MacBook is shutting down unexpectedly.

Anyone else experiences either of these?

i have the same problem!!! wtf??? i hope apple fixes this asap. i was thinking of reinstalling my old software. anyone know how to downgrade without losing anything?

well i tested it some more, computer just kept shutting down randomly. even when i ran windows using bootcamp.. weird...

i went back to 10.4.6, had to back up everything. now its running like a champ again. apple needs to fix this issue asap. i'm scared to update now... think i'll stick with 10.4.6 for a while, i have no other option.

Try resetting the PRAM
I had the same problem, resetting the PRAM once lowered the amount of shutdowns. If it continues to shut down, reset it again.

I'm running fine now :)

turn off the computer

press the power button

hold down option, apple button, P, and R before the gray screen comes on

wait till you hear the second start up sound

let go of the buttons

your done

This may be due to your MIDI settings being out of whack (especially if you have Audio Hijack installed). Try opening GarageBand, then closing it once it goes through its opening sequence. It worked for me.

Thank You!!! It worked!

Also, the random shutdowns aren't happening anymore. Well, actually, It did shutdown once yesterday and I had it on all day long so It could've been overheating, so I'm not too worried unless it starts shutting down a lot again.

yeah happens off and on. i just put my default ram in, due to the arguements i heard about generic ram being added... let you know if it shuts down again... none so far.

Yep. The MIDI settings are screwy.

I made a troubleshooting article about this:

Every once in a while though, on Mac OS X it can happen that Flash video players like YouTube or Google Video don’t have sound anymore.

  • open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup
  • check the properties for Built In Output.
  • It might be set to 96KHz. Change it to 44KHz and audio in Flash will return immediately.
