After updates, Series 3 can't unlock MBP

After updating everything besides my watch randomly rebooting, now on my MBP the setting to allow my watch to unlock it is unchecked and it keeps saying my phone and watch need to be unlocked. I tried any solutions I saw online. Is this maybe a bug with the new software?

i followed these instructions earlier and they worked for me (series 5):

What finally worked for me after trying
• power cycle
• logout/in icloud
• delete auto unlock in key chain and library
Was holding shift+alt while selecting bluetooth in menu bar>debug>reset connected apple devices to factory settings.
