Through personal experiance i've found my macs have personalities (or apear to have a sort of A.I.if you will).
My first Mac, a lowly yet sturdy LCII didn't like working hard on weekend mornings, or in the middle of the night. i played marathon 2 a LOT and if i tried at any of the above times it would crash or get buggy or the entire mac would freeze.
my next mac a Umax APUS2000 (yes a clone and my dad still uses it) was ok, i think the AI comes with the apple badge.
The first mac i baught myself (a clamshell iBook DVSE 466-G3 on release day) worked along at its own pace quite happily, cheerily accepting RAM upgrades when funds permitted (till I got to the maximum), then i startid looking into a NEW mac, and the iBook DID NOT like that, so to convince me that it didnt need replacing it suddenly started working better, faster, and for longer when unplugged, with NO changes to the settings, until i baught my shiney new eMac 800 w/superdrive. After i ordered the emac it refused to do anything anymore, even a format and reinstall didnt clear it.
My emac only got upset when i appeared home from a trip to PC World with a Very shiney Very big 17' 1.5Ghz PB-G4 and refused to network with the powerbook causing me to transfer nearly 60GB of my data on DVD-RWs, because it wouldnt accept the ibook on target disc mode, or mount on the powerbook as a target disc, but both of them target disc and network (airport and ethernet) with my wifes iBook 800G3 with 0 problems. even applecare were baffled? then i sold it to a friend (who I converted from the wintel world) and now it works perfectly, again with NO changes to anything, WIERD Hu?
However i've pampered my powerbook, maxed out the ram, gave it an external 120GB HD, an iPod to keep it company when i'm asleep, and a 1Mb adsl line to play on through an airport extream base station, and a windoze peecee to pick on connected through ethernet. It seams greatfull for this cos it lets me play UT2k4 and Halo with no slowdown in native ws resolutions, while itunes is streaming to the peecee and ibook.
just want to see if anyone else has had similar experiances.
