First iPad purchase for me, and was thinking of getting the Air 2 over the original just to have all the fastest processor, extra RAM, antiglare screen, and of course, Touch ID so I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon. I picked up both an Air (Apple Refurb) and an Air 2 (Costco) and was going to choose which will be my wife and myself's Christmas present to ourselves (price difference is only $50), and return the other.
I really like the idea of the fingerprint ID, but don't have an iPhone so no idea how useful it'll be in the real world. I was all ready to go with the Air 2 until my OCD got hold and I found stories of problems with the screen (finger tips on back makes dark "ghosting" spots on screen) and random popping sounds (as if a static discharge when using). The floor model at best Buy had very little finger ghosting on the screen and no popping (in the time I was there), so wonder if the problem is rare, or has been resolved? There is a 28 page thread about the Air 2 popping issue on the "Using iPad" page in the Apple Community forum, which scares me a little.
Couldn't find much here and wondered what your experience has been with the Air 2.
