Just got my Magic Keyboard and to my surprise the finish is not what I expected. Has anyone experienced this?

I agree. Poor quality controL. I’m returning this ASAP. After I posted this I see that I am not the only one with these issues.

Hope you’ll get it exchanged quick and Easy and be happy after it. But still a very unpleasant experience in the first place.

As an owner of the current SK, I really think there’s going to be a rash of people who are very unhappy with how these very expensive keyboards look in 3-6 months’ time. The material Apple have chosen to make the MKB out of ages poorly, fast.

Thanks for clarifying.

It sort of keeps me from buying it, even though I’d really like to try it and get more use out of my iPad.

You can get a skin for it, which fixes that particular problem. I have skinned mine, and i fully expect that the AMK will look as good as new when i am ready to upgrade my iPad (probably to a bigger version) when this one doesn’t cut it anymore.

Both my wife and I never had any problem with our 10.5 and 12.9 2nd gen SKF. After a couple of years use, they still looked new. Did they change something for the newer ones?

The airbubbles disappeared by itself before I took it to service. Maybe it was too fresh from the factory?

I remember the older Apple monitors that had what felt like stockings stretched over the screen. Eventually, quite a few owners had the stockings loosen up and start to bubble. And if you got a scratch deep enough, the edges would start to lift up. But that's from, WAY LONG AGO. Like Apple III days... (And then the Apple Sony Trinitron monitor from the IIcx days, and the thin dark bar that some saw. Mine wasn't as bad as most. You win some, and lose some)

But that looks nasty. Is it a rubber coating over plastic? Any contamination, and that's not going to last long. Sad. Sometimes I don't think anything can be done about it either. Just replace it.

Back on the stockinged monitors, people were trying clear nail polish to re-glue the stalkings down, which only made the viewing that much worse. Maybe, on these keyboards, try using heat sparingly, and pressure?

Mine arrived today. I was really worried about imperfections, but I’ve had a good look and its fine. I did buy it though O2 UK, which would have made it trickier to return, but I seem to have been lucky. I agree that it should be of very good quality at this price.

It could possibly be Apple still ironing out the kinks with what is possibly a complicated manufacturing process with a first gen product. Perhaps return the keyboard and wait another few more months for Apple to refine their processes some more?
