I'm on the verge of buying an Air, and was considering my warranty options. I can buy the edu-discounted Applecare for $185, or a 3-year warranty with Accident protection from Squaretrade for around $350.

From what I can tell, Squaretrade is reputable. And no accident protection is what did me in with my last laptop (small liquid spill fried the motherboard). But reading these threads, it seems like y'all make frequent trips to the Apple store for exchanges and fixes when the Air's fan starts squealing, cores start shutting down, etc.

Anyone have more knowledging comparing these two options?

Scratch that...the Squaretrade warranty with accident coverage is $500. That changes things a bit.

Anybody had an accident with this MBA and wished for this? Like maybe...it slipping out of your hands? Or being thrown across a room?

My girlfriend was using my MBA and it fell off her lap when she was distracted. It only fell two feed but it dented a corner of the lid near the MagSafe connection. The quote from the apple store to repair it was $1200 as the LCD is "built in to the lid"... I told him that I thought that was amazing. How could pressing aluminum make a display.

Its not noticeable but I notice it and its frustrating. One of the joys of this new unibody manufacturing technique is that if you dent something then you have to replace ALL of the attached parts, not just that localized component.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted (well, not really) to hear! They saying buying accident insurance is dumb for all but a few types of purchases--and I think an aluminum Apple laptop might be one of those.

squaretrade is associated with Ebay, therefore STAY THE F_____ AWAY. look them up online and see what people's experiences are, and I guarantee you it is negative. Stay away form them. FRAUD imo.
