I am having problems trying to Airdrop any file from my IP6s to my rMBP (and vice versa) - I can't see the other device.

I've tried adding myself to my contact list, and selecting "Allow me to be contacted by: contacts only", which didn't work. I've also tried changing that to "Allow me to be contacted by: Everyone", which again did not work.

I am signed into the same iCloud account on both devices, same wifi network, both have bluetooth turned on and they are right next to each other (i.e. not in different rooms).

Can anybody please offer any advice?

allow contacted from everyone
wifi and bluetooth on
devices do not need to be on the same iCloud account
mac should be in finder and in the airdrop folder

mac and iPhone should see each other fine

if mac is an older model, you need to put it in legacy mode by clicking on "don't see who you are looking for"

mac and iPhone should be on current versions of their operating systems

iPhone needs to be unlocked. if the iPhone is locked and the screen off, it won't show up on the mac

thats about it, it should work.

they do not need to be on the same wifi network

the mac should see the iPhone on the finder / airdrop screen
the iPhone should see the mac come up in the list of clients when you click on the share button

apple says to check to make sure personal hotspot is tuned off on the iPhone
and check the mac book pro retina is 2012 or older

I am always clicking Airdrop within finder, and from the share menu of iOS, my rMBP never pops up. Nor can I ever see my IP6 when in Airdrop on the rMBP.

Even with allow contacted from everyone, I can't see either device.

I was already doing everything you said in your post, but to no avail.
