I use airdrop a lot between my iPhone 16 pro (running 26.1) and my late 2014 iMac 27 inch. Running Big Sur. I’m pretty sure this is the latest version useable on this old mac. Going either way, will intermittently just fail. They are close together and on the same network.

This is not a new phenomenon but think it’s getting worse. Anything I can do to get over this annoying problem?

Airdrop basically stopped working for me with iOS 26.1 and a 2019 Macbook Pro on Monterey 12.7.4. Airdrop worked fine with iOS 26.0.1 and still works fine with another iPhone still on 17.7.2 but 26.1 has killed Airdrop with Monterey.

It's frustrating. Talk to Apple and their solution is install the latest macOS even though it's iOS 26.1 that introduced this bug since Airdrop even up to 26.0.1 worked with Monterey.

Update - iOS 26.2 fixed the problem with Airdrops and my Monterey-equipped Macbook Pro. Not sure if it would help with Big Sur but I am happy to get Airdrop working again.

I've experienced intermittent issues between my M2 Air (Tahoe) and my old Intel 2017 MacBook Air (Monterey) - which I have kicking around for work, travel, occasional coffee shop.

I haven't tried it with 26.2 yet, but then, I've taken to using the (cross platform) app LocalSend (https://localsend.org/, also in App Store) which seems a lot faster and is capable of sending entire folders.

It's not as simple as r-click > Share > Airdrop, but it does work.
