I’m thinking about updating my receiver in my home theater to a Denon or Marantz with AirPlay 2. I’m also thinking about jumping on a 4K Projector. I broke the HDMI to my current projector and I’m currently running HDMI over Cat6 and I doubt that will fly with 4K. My easy fix would be to put my 4K ATV up by my projector and cast the audio to the AP2 receiver.

My question - what impact does this have to my surround sound audio? I run a 5.1 system and have no interest in more speakers now or ever. I’m assuming Dolby Digital, DTS, etc won’t transmit. Am I relying on DSP Pro Logic to try and make something out of a stereo AP2 signal?

Anyone ever try this or willing to test?

I'm pretty sure it will be stereo

I have an aTV4k and will occasionally use airplay2 to get to a pair of Sonos speakers in the next room.
it works mostly OK, I have a problem with Channels (an app that streams live TV from a tuner on your network) with it, normally have to re-start playback to get it to connect, and there's a several second delay when you hit play.
most other apps also seem to work (tested Netflix and Plex) not sure what you use.
sync seams to be ok all around, even on my one problem app.

looks like you can get a 4k over cat6
