There is an old issue with the iPhone 12 series and above in that it doesn’t trigger HDR/Dolby Vision when AirPlaying from the phone to an Apple TV 4K, in particular with Dolby Vision footage shot on an iPhone 12 or above. I’ve waiting for years to get this to work and it never has.

If I AirPlay an HDR video from my phone to my Apple TV 4K, the match content does not trigger HDR on my TV. The only work around I have found is to first set my HDR to output HDR by default. (I usually have it set to 4K SDR with Match content and range on.)

More recently, the videos synced in the photos app on tvOS does seem to trigger HDR/DV but the downside to that is, it only plays in HD (based on the HD badge I see on the info window) but I suppose it’s better than nothing.

Has anyone been able to AirPlay iPhone 12+ 4K HDR/DV footage to an Apple TV 4K correctly?

iPhone shoots different Dolby Vision profile (profile 4, HLG compatible) that tvOS does not support as far as I know.
As of today, tvOS supports DoVi profile 5 only.
