I tried to mirror my late 2011 iMac (fully updated running latest version of Mavericks) to my ATV to show the wife something I was looking at on the screen and the option has disappeared it seems.

I've restarted both my iMac and ATV.
I used to work but I can't pinpoint when the option stopped appearing as I don't use it very often.
I recently updated Mavericks within the last few days (OSX informed my there was an update so I installed it).

Is this a known issue?

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you still signed into home sharing on the iMac, and signed into the ATV?

Yep I am.
I've been through the usual simple checks. It just seems odd that it vanished suddenly - the only change I can think of is the recent OSX update

edit: aha! it appears my wee boy's has been pressing lots of options on the remote. the airplay option was switched off on the ATV. Once i enabled it again, the icon appeared

Ah, yes, the first rules of troubleshooting anything electronic...

* check the cable
* check the connection
* check to see that the 4 year old hasn't been playing chopsticks on the remote, lol

Glad you are good now. Happy Holidays.
