So I just got my 15" rMBP from Apple (2013 2.7 16GB 256GB). It's my first new mac and obviously did a lot of research before taking the plunge. My old laptop crapped out so couldn't wait for a refresh and the specs are more than enough for me for a few years.
I read a lot about Image Retention with the LG screens. I originally bought this same system a few weeks before WWDC (not realizing it was around the corner) and returned it after hearing rumors of a refresh. The first system I got BTO had a Samsung screen. The one I just received last week BTO has a 2nd gen SJA2 LG screen - so naturally I was concerned. I read on the massive apple IR thread that somone with this panel was able to see IR when using Airplay Mirroring. So I tried it out, enabled AirPlay mirroring - left some windows up for a few minutes. Once I went to disable Airplay, there's a blue screen that comes up for a few seconds and you can see the ghost image of all the windows I had open.
I was wondering if anyone else with a similarly specd 15 rMBP can try to duplicate this and see if maybe it's software or a issue with the display.
- Enable Airplay Mirroring
- Open a few windows to have on the screen
- After a few minutes, disable Airplay and when the screen goes blue see if you can see the ghost of those windows
If its just a software glitch, this should happen with Samsung displays too (which is what I'm hoping for). If not, I want to take it back and try to play the LG/Samsung lottery and hope I win.
Thanks for your help!!
