I have my media library in iTunes 12.0.1 running on OS X 10.10.
If I select my HomePod as an AirPlay target inside iTunes, I get disconnections (the icon goes orange and the music stops) are varying intervals. Based on recommendations I've seen online, I've tried:
I also get error 15007 when trying to select my MacBook Air running macOS 15.5.
When I use the System Sound Output to set an AirPlay target, I get no disconnections and I can connect to the MacBook Air.
Unfortunately using System Sound Output is not ideal.
And why does iTunes still show the System Sound Targets without any way to distinguish from selecting the target in iTunes. It's very confusing.

- Disabling location services
- Disabling spotlight
- Disabling IPv6
- Changing WiFi channel to 44 (to reduce latency when searching for HandOff targets)
- Setting Home AirPlay to Everyone
- Setting Home AirPlay to Same Network with Password
- Switching to Ethernet

- I end up with three separate volume controls, iTunes, System Sound and the HomePod itself.
- I can't change the target from the Remote App
- I can't select multiple targets.
