Airplay just will not playback smoothly.

I've got a newer cisco router running dd-wrt that's n capable and i've got one airport express and i'm just trying to get audio to playback without constantly skipping. The airport is set to join the network and not extend it. I used iStumblr to pick a radio channel not being used around me. It used to work when it was AirTunes. Anyone else solve this??
