Airplay mirroring not filling tv screen

Hey. I try to use airplay on my macbook air 2011 against my appletv 3gen. See attachment, why isn't it correctly displayed on the TV?

I have found a workaround: Go into the screens and turn on then off overscan protection. However, shouldn't this work correctly out of the box? Is there any permanent fix?
