iPhone Airplay not on iPhone

I've got an old Airport Express (A1088).
I can Airplay to it from my iPad Mini Retina, My iMac on iTunes, an iPod 4th Gen, but it doesn't appear from the Airplay list on an iPhone 6 & iPad Air.
All iOS devices are running iOS 8.0.2 barring the iPod which is limited to iOS6.

Airplay does work from the iPhone 6 & iPad Air to my Apple TV, but the AE just does not appear.


Any thoughts???

Hm... a quick thought, forgive if it's insultingly obvious, but: the devices need to be on the same WiFi network. Easy to overlook on phones, which connect with such good bandwidth to cell networks nowadays.

Yeah, all devices are on my Airport Extreme.
