I’ve been using Apple Airplay on Roku ever since my TV started supporting it. I’m using my iPhone SE 2 to AirPlay to Roku.
I have noticed some videos will stop playing if I close the app or lock my phone screen.
Is there a setting somewhere to enable videos to keep playing even when the app isn’t the active one?

that's just the way it is.

it's up to the developers of each app, They can decide how it airplays, or even if it can airplay at all.
You might have some luck reaching out to the developers, it might be an accident

you probably won't be able to close the app, as the app still needs to be active to play the file

you might get the ability to keep playing with the phone's screen off though.

Thanks for your reply. Some apps Airplay in the background without problems. I wish all apps worked the same way. It really defeats the purpose of airplay to make your phone available while watching a video.

you can try reaching out to the makers of the app.
They may not realize people want to use it like that, or might have accidentally configured it that way and could accommodate you, it's a fairly simple change in programming.
OR...
it could be a conscious choice on their part, and if you're watching on the TV, they want you to use the app on the TV or a streaming box for a better experience, so they have limited it on the phone.
or it could be a licensing issue, and that stream is only licensed for mobile screens, so their current contract won't allow them to output to TVs without paying more money.
