Airplay Questions. Help me understand.

Hi

Please help me to understand my Airplay issue. If I stream music from my iMac, in my home-office second bedroom, to my Airport Express and then into my stereo, in the living room, things work very well. Yet, if I stream from my iPad or iPhone, in any part of the apartment, including the living room, where the stereo is, there are frequent dropouts. The wifi network is the same. The issues of going through the walls (concrete and cinder block), I would assume are identical because the music needs to get to the same Airport Express. What can account for the variation?
