Since installing Sequoia, I haven't been able to AirPlay Safari videos to my Apple TV - the icon doesn't show up in videos. It's worked before I upgraded - I suspect Safari not being in the Local Network Privacy & Security panel being the culprit, but I can't figure out any way to get Safari to prompt me to add it.

Anyone have any tips (or at least have AirPlay working?).

Go into System Settings > Displays, click the drop-down with a "+" in it next to the display. Do you see your Apple TVs there? If you don't - it's not a Safari issue; the computer's literally not seeing the Apple TV.

I hadn't tried that, but it shows up just fine. I even mirrored my desktop to it. Also tried airplaying from my iPhone to the Apple TV and while it was flakey it did work.

Safari is considered to be a "System App" so is automatically permitted Local Network Access. As an example, most people's router has an admin page on 192.168.x.x, navigate to there. Safari will be permitted w/o a prompt.

Sorry, no further insight.

Could it just be the site you're visiting? Not every video in Safari will have the AirPlay option.

Does the AirPlay option show up for YouTube videos?

Same problem on mine, immediately after updating to Seqouia. I have another MacBook running Sonoma and it AirPlays just fine from the same website.

Unfortunately not. It's rifftrax.com and it worked perfectly on the same machine before upgrading.

Checking rifftrax.com preview video, I don't see an option to AirPlay from the video itself (as opposed to, say, YouTube where there is an option). Of course I don't have anything prior to macOS Sequoia to test with; I'll take it as given that it "used to work."

Obviously videos CAN still show that - YouTube does - so I'd get rifftrax support involved. Could be something they need to alter in their player.

In the meantime - System Settings > Control Center > Screen Mirroring > "Always show in Menu Bar." Then when you want to mirror a video - Control Center > Screen Mirroring > your Apple TV

I have the same problem, I have three macbooks at home, one of them was updated from Sonoma to Sequoia and I am not able to stream video from Safari. It works completely fine on other laptops but not on the one with Sequoia.

Do you have any ideas how it can be fixed?

The firewall is blocking us from connecting. The fix is to:

  • Turn off the firewall.
  • Connect to Apple TV.
  • Turn the firewall back on.

Then you're okay until the next time you try to connect.
