I airplay streaming video to my 4th generation Apple TV daily. Something I find annoying is that when my iPhone goes to sleep or I lock the phone, the stream will stop. This has been going on since before iOS 10 but I was hoping the update would fix the issue. A few years ago I did not have this issue. I could airplay video and lock the phone and the stream would continue. The only workaround I've found is to change the setting on my phone for the display to never sleep on its own.

Is there something I am missing to get this to work? Or is this by design and it's doing what it's supposed to. I think that would be extremely silly so I'm leaning towards something just not working correctly. I've tried rebooting all devices numberous times with no change.

Thanks for any help.

It depends on the app. Some are programmed to allow you to keep streaming if you leave the app. Others aren't.
