I used subler to add subtitles (soft) at my mp4 movies.
Everything works fine when i watch my movies on my mac (itunes).

But when i airplay them Subtitles option disappears....

Do you have an iOS device ?

You can use the remote app & select the movie there to play on the ATV
This works with subs , that's all I can tell you

I have never tried sending a video from mac/iTunes to ATV

I found it. You just hold the central button for a couple of secs. :)

In the aTV settings you can designate one language as default for subs. As soon as your MP4 movie contains a subtitle track in that language, it will be automatically activated.

I've been using ATV1/2/3 for years and I didn't know that. Thanks :)
