HomePod AirPlay to TV and HomePods at the same time?

I have a 14" MacBook Pro and a 2022 Samsung Frame TV but no Apple TV. I use AirPlay to stream video from the Mac to the TV.

In this scenario, can I have the video played on my TV while a stereo paired set of HomePods is used for the audio?

I think you may need at ATV with the HomePods set as default audio for it.

That's what I'm afraid of. Anyone have first hand experience with this?
