Music is constantly dropping and cutting off, sometimes for a couple of seconds, sometimes longer.
My setup: Airport Extreme connected to internet modem (ground floor), Mac Mini (2012) on first floor connected through wifi (wooden floors and ceilings - no concrete), Airport Express on ground floor connected to stereo with audiojack, another Airport Express on first floor connected to powered speakers with audiojack (both Expresses use wifi to connect to the Extreme). Music is on iTunes and controlled on my Mac or on my iPad (remote app).
I have now tried connecting one of the Express'es to the Extreme with an ethernet cable (as described here), as they are actually in the same room. This does not solve anything: music keeps cutting off. Should I also connect my Mac to the Extreme with an ethernet cable? Does that not make the whole "wireless solution" thing rather silly?
Also, I am looking into ways of implementing a good setup in my new house where I can basically do anything I want. I would like to have my music in one central place (Mac), be able to control it on my Mac or iPad, and listen to it in several rooms using "normal" stereos/speakers. It is not necessary to listen to different songs in different rooms at the same time. I'm thinking of putting ethernet cables in every room so I can connect my Mac and every Express to the Extreme with those cables. Would that work?
I've been trying to make AirPlay work for many years now, but with no success. I have looked at several websites and forums, but I have so far not been able to get AirPlay to work consistently. Help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
