AirPlay without Mountain Lion

Hi,

My girlfriend has the last white MacBook before they killed the line, and would like to somehow send things from her MacBook to the Apple TV if that's possible?

For example, having iPlayer open in the background playing to the Apple TV, and then working in the foreground? Of course having iPlayer on the Apple TV would be ace, but doesn't seem to be possible
