What was the latest rumor that we heard about Airpod 2 when are they supposedly gonna be coming out ?

I think that's a safe prediction.

Heck, Apple even states it on their official website:

"Optional wireless charging case coming in 2018."

So it wouldn't make sense for them to release a new, slightly modified version in September 2018 and then release a 3rd Gen version in 2019.

They'll just release the wireless charging case in September as promised and a new version in 2019.

I wanted to wait for the September event but after re-reading their official product website I'm 100% sure there won't be a new version soon but just the new charging case as promised.

So I pulled the trigger today and ordered a pair so I can add Airpower and the new charging case in September.
 
After they figure out how to fit a touch bar and display emoji's on them.

More seriously, probably after they decided how to integrate the software fixes and new features together into the AirPod 2. I would like to see
  • a variety of colors
  • on/off control for power management
  • longer battery life
  • pairing without the charging case
  • ability to swipe up/down on the AirPods to control volume and scrobble back/forwards in the audio/video media you are playing.

Man, I really can’t believe there was no word on AirPower in the 9/12 event. Seriously? Wasn’t that announced a year ago? Sheesh. Come on apple!

And as for the AirPods 2, yeah, I’m guessing that’s a 2019 now for sure - maybe even September 2019.

They will be out when Apple releases them... Apple is so transparent on some things, but they're also getting hard to predict what they are up to these days on others. I suspect that the delay may have something to do with the AirPower charging pad and the fact that it's disappeared completely from their website - no mention that it's coming or that it evens exists... the AirPod 2 was supposed to come with a wireless charging case, that would work with the AirPower charging pad ... so ... who really knows these days.

I'm hoping at the iPad event this fall. As much as you've seen people clearance them the last couple months, I'd think they are coming somewhat soon? Like the watch was on sale all the time for the last few months or so.
