AirPod confusion

Are these things using a non Bluetooth wireless protocol?

Are they only compatible with iPhone 7 series phones?

Do they require iOS 10?

Do they work with other, more recent Mac computers?

So many unanswered questions.

We all know this is bound to happen with Apple's dongle, so I'm at least considering a wireless solution.

How hard are you on your cables?? I still have 30 pin FireWire connectors that see heavy use.

Most of the answers you are after are contained in the tech specs. Site also says sierra and iOS 10 are required.
