AirPods (2nd gen) with Windows 10, iPhone and iPad

I am loving the quick-switch functionality of iOS 14 when using AirPods with my iPhone and iPad.

However my PC is Windows 10 - what will happen if I pair the AirPods with the PC? Will they remain “captive” to Windows or will they still be able to seamlessly switch to iPhone/iPad without having to re-pair?
