Amazon has dropped the price of the AirPods 4 to $69.00 for Black Friday, from $129.00. This is now a new all-time low price on the earbuds, beating the previous low price on Amazon by about $10.

This is the AirPods 4 model without Active Noise Cancellation, but if you're looking for the device with ANC you can find it on Amazon for $99.99, down from $179.00, another record low price.

I would never buy anything Apple from Amazon.

I once purchased Apple Airpods from Amazon - these came from Amazon direct, not a third party seller. I specifically made sure they were Amazon supplied.
Used them as normal. After around 18 months I upgraded my iPhone and my Airpods would no longer connect to my new phone.
Went into Apple, who took a close look and couldn't work it out. They sad the airpods had been replaced an unusually high number of times. I said I had them since new and never replaced them before?! They said the left airpod was last replaced by 'Susan' a month ago. I said no, I don't know any Susan and I've had these Airpods for 18 months - even had the original Amazon invoice to show them!

Turned out the Airpods were fake. The guy at Apple was even shocked at how good of a clone they were. It seems the serial number had been cloned across a large number of units, hence the reason for the unusually high return rate on this serial. Basically I had a genuine serial on fake Airpods!
I complained to Amazon, who said they would take the Airpods back and have them repaired!!!
I said no, I paid for new Apple Airpods, not fakes. I no longer trusted them with a repair, or even a replacement.
In the end they refunded, and I repurchased from elsewhere.

Considering Amazon themselves were unknowingly supplying people with illegal clone products was enough to put me off. Hence I would never buy anything of great value from Amazon again, especially anything Apple.

Apple has a lineup problem:

AirPods 4: $70
AirPods 4 w/ AND: $100
AirPods Pro 2: $130
AirPods Pro 3: $220

That's a huge jump and difficult to accept if one is marketing the AirPods 4 as being good already in sound quality and ANC, what do the Pro models really have to offer that is worth twice as much? Once AirPods Pro 2 stock is exhausted it gets even worse.

Certainly does not help impressions that Apple is price gouging with some of their prices.

Would be very interesting to know what sales breakdown is like.

This is a black friday sale, not the regular Apple price for AirPods 4...so that lineup comparison isn't accurate.

Not accurate? It's current reality. It's what people see when they shop, and sets expectations for the next year as to what a good price is.

Even if prices are $20-$30 higher in sales throughout the next year, the large gap remains. I don't believe Air Pods Pro 2 will return to a higher level than $150, and AirPods 4 w/ ANC likely not return to higher than $130.

So even if AirPods Pro 3 maintains their current Black Friday sale price, which you suggest is unreasonable to expect, there's a big jump from $130 to $230.

Is buying from Amazon risk free? As in I won't get fake AirPods? With Amazon.com as the seller? Why do so many reviews claim that they received fake/tampered AirPods?

I feel like amazon reviewers simply don't check what they bought. they probably did buy fake ones and left a review under the real product thinking that's what they bought. Or some just simply think they're fake. I take most amazon reviews with a grain of salt and caution with they're probably not real reviews.

These. And/or bought Amazon refurb and got "wrong" product.

For example, I once tried to buy a discounted Apple Watch Sport Loop that was an Amazon return. Got a torn to heck Apple box with right color name on it but in the box was a totally different band. So can see where a previous return was not inspected as well as it should have (eg. purchaser kept the band and returned some other band for a full refund). In the case of buds, purchaser might have sent back fakes or broken buds and slipped past Amazon's "QA".

That said, bought my latest AW on Amazon and got the genuine article in 100% brand new working order. Plus discounted AppleCare. Would buy from Amazon again if entry says "Apple Store" and "Ships/Sells from Amazon".
