Regarding the AirPods 4 with ANC, today's deal is the best price we've tracked so far in 2025, but it's not an all-time low price. We tracked a fairly steep discount on the AirPods 4 over the holiday season last year, but it's unlikely to reappear anytime soon, so Amazon's discount is a solid option if you're shopping for the newest AirPods right now.

In addition to Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on this model, the AirPods 4 also feature a redesigned earbud for increased comfort, the H2 chip for improved audio performance, up to 30 hours of battery life, and an IP54 rating for dust, water, and sweat resistance.

Anybody have/used both these and AirPods Pro and can tell me how they compare? It would be nice to have decent ANC without the ear sealed off. Thoughts?

They are really good and quite low latency even for FPS games. ANC is not as good as pro 2’s - there seems to be added “hiss” and I feel that the ANC puts a little too much pressure on my ears probably as it needs to cancel outside noises at a much higher level than APP’s.

The pros are more comfortable, AP4’s are smaller than the 3’s but still larger than the pros.

The pro’s have less ear fatiguing ANC and you find that they cut you off from the world actually less than AP4’s when transparency is on.

I ended up with the AP4 as my wife couldn’t test the fit of APP and doesn’t like any in-ear headphones. Her opinion changed when within two weeks of getting the AP4 she finally got to try some APP’s (which were bought the same day).

I really wish I could return the AP4’s- the pros are a no brainer for the $20 difference but I guess I’ll stick with these.

ANC not as good as APP, but very good given the open design

They are my go-to model for walks and gym equipment usage

I still use normal AP2 for my runs and gym workouts (with silicone cover/tips to keep them secure)

This is solid gold info. Thank you!

I have not used AirPods Pro and most likely will not, because I really hate silicone tips and the feeling of something in my ears.

A few weeks ago I was shoveling snow in my driveway and lost one of my old AirPods 2, which I found later that day smashed from running it over. I was disappointed, but started checking out what the AirPod options were.

Ended up getting the AirPods 4 with ANC, and I have been extremely impressed by them. They fit my ears really well, and the ANC is amazing considering that there isn't an inner seal or outer cover. I didn't know what to expect, but was very happy with my purchase.

They are so good that I use them so much more than my old AirPods 2. I would only use my AirPods 2 when making phone calls on my iPhone, and occasionally with music. My new ANC AirPods 4 are being used all the time with many different devices. I started using them on my main Mac while playing WC3, and use them with my Apple TVs.

That said, from all the reviews I have seen, the AirPods Pro 2 has a slight edge in terms of performance over the ANC AirPods 4, so if you don't mind the silicone tips or the feeling if something sitting in your ears, that would probably be a better purchase.

thank you! i really appreciate you took the time to write all that. The ANC in any of these tiny devices is a modern miracle by my standards. I’m tired of the seal of the ear canal thing….. my tinnitus bugs me and i think that has something to do with it. the open form may work better for me….worth a try. always need a backup when one gets ran over….i dropped on last summer and it was crushed before i found it in street…., sigh….

I recently upgraded to the Airpods4 with ANC. I don’t like in-ear earphones so I didn’t take any time researching the pros, but a couple of comments on the ANC as compared to my BOSE noise cancelling headphones…

1.a previous commenter mentioned “pressure” on the each when ANC is in. Definitely true. It goes away (or is hidden) if you play something.

2. The “spatial awareness” feature, where the volume increases due to ambient noise around you, can get annoying quick. Walking my dog in a quiet suburban neighborhood, I found the sound world go up and down when a breeze blew or a bird chirped.

3. The ANC seems to be “reactive”, in that it is good for constant noise (like, say a vacuum cleaner) but not for instant loud noises, such as a nail gun. I decided to try it out when using a nail gun and it did nothing to stop the sound, and in fact I could feel the ANC kick into higher gear right after firing the gun.

I was uber surprised how the Pro's feel just so different to other "in ears", and I have quite a few ranging from cheap buds to molded IEM's.

IMHO AirPods Pro aren't really in-ear, but rather ear-sealing. They don't get squished inside your ear canal, and literally just cover and seal the earhole (and they have really, really marshmallowy soft tips), that seal with transparency mode really feels like you aren't wearing headphones at all.

I'll survive with my AP4, until I can sell them but the ANC pressure (especially at low music volumes can be quite overbearing after 30 mins or so so I don't use the feature much except for calls. They just do not feel as comfortable as pros and tend to start slipping out (small ears) and need to be re-adjusted quite a bit.

Anyone who has doubts should really try the pro's before making a regretful decision - my wife would not even consider them for the longest time after her experiences with other in-ears. She liked the AP4's (aside from the slippage I now experience). The APP's though were an instant "OMG I need these".

I have less feeling of anything in my ears when wearing the pros, the AP4's I'm always conscious of them.

To a point - If you are playing at a low volume (the reason I wanted ANC) it gives me nasty headaches. At higher levels it isn't so bad.

It is - otherwise there would be (even more) latency, right now they are just about good enough for FPS games, but still useless for musicians.
