so on multiple occasions i noticed a slight millisecond sound cutout when i walk in the street and listen to music with my new Airpods, anyone have any idea on how to fix this or perhaps apple will fix this in a firmware update?

Depending on which phone you have there are threads here and other places about cutouts from signal being blocked depending on pocket location.

I would attempt a re-pair or disable Bluetooth, then re-enable.

I've noticed this with other bt headphones too. BT works best when it has objects to bounce the signal off, when you are out on an open street objects are farther away than at home. I've noticed random cutouts when i'm crossing a large intersection. The signal then restores when i'm walking next to a building. Just a thought to try, see if you confirm the same behavior. Placing the phone in a different pocket might help.

Likely an iOS 10 issue, rather than the AirPods. Get random Bluetooth issues with my car/watch too. Not very common, but it happens.
