I was very excited to try the AirPods max with the Apple TV and special audio today, and it does sound wonderful. However, I found the latency to be enough that speech isn’t quite synced with the audio. It’s just enough of a delay for me to notice and be annoying. I haven’t really used AirPods with my Apple TV before, does anyone know if this has always been an issue? Or perhaps it’s something to do with my home network, or something that can be patched in the new OS?

On your Apple TV, under the Video and Audio settings, near the bottom, there is a Sync Wireless Audio option that I think is suppose to help. I'm not sure if it works. I do not notice any lag with my AirPods Pro so I have never tried that option.

I bought AirPods Max over the summer specifically for Spatial Audio on my Apple TV. I found the audio/video sync in the v15 betas to be unbearable. Someone at the Infuse forum mentioned he was able to fix his issue by using the game picture mode on his television. I was very skeptical at first about that, but sure enough I noticed the sync was pretty much fixed after trying it out. That means the additional video processing the TV is doing (for say HDR/DV) isn't being compensated for. Not too surprisingly the both of us had LG OLED TV's.

I haven't check things out for a couple of months now, but plan on seeing where things stand now. Using the game picture mode is not ideal at all. What @RollTide1017 mentioned might very well be an option (have seen that on reddit as well), but I think you need an iPhone to do the sync and that's not something I possess.

Thank you both for the replies! I too have an LG OLED. I’ll give the game mode a try, but I hope the sync wireless audio option works so that I don’t lose any image quality.

Just got a pair of AirPods max today
Amazed by the sound (I’m no audiophile) and banged on rogue one to test atmos
Everything sounded great bar when people talked. The sound was just that bit out of sync and as such, coupled with atmos, sounded as if not coming from the tv
Ran the sync thing and loads better.

Watching Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and the airpods audio just fell out of synch with video by 1/2 a second. Pressing pause, then play seems to fix it short term to resynch. But has happened sporadically on different tvs using same Airpods 3 with spatial audio On. Doesn’t appear to happen with backup Airpods 2.

Airpods 3 w Spatial Audio on, TCL 75” tv, Apple TV 4k 2021, Dolby Vision on.
