These are typically priced around $189.99 on sale, so today's price is a massive discount on the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro 2 were updated in 2023 with USB-C, and also feature Active Noise Cancellation, Apple's H2 chip, and Spatial Audio.

Literally just lost my original set, so this was convenient timing. :p

Seriously, my original over four-year old pair were having issues holding a charge and I would like to move to USB-C for the case so I was ready to replace now that we know an update is not coming anytime soon.

Also $159.99 at Best Buy. Bought these couple weeks ago from them, was trying to see if I can get $10 back and I did. Good thing it's also on sale there because they're only price matching themselves until 12/3.

The Airpods Pro 2 are great, superb even; highly recommended. Despite 4 available tip sizes there are some ears that will not fit well however. I recommend fit testing at an Apple Store prepurchase.

The new noise-canceling Airpods without the silicone tips also work pretty well [not as good as the Airpods Pro 2] and provide a different fit to compare to. After the puppy chewed up one of my Airpods Pro 2 that fell out when I dozed off I got a pair of the non-Pro noise-canceling Airpods and they fit my ears much better.

After mine had battery conk, I wanted to buy time until the rumored next gen and bought a set of cheapies on Amazon for about 20% of this "best ever sale" price, now towards about 12% of this price. They sound just as good and maybe better, mics seem just as clear when used for phone calls and a very handy battery indicator on the front has completely changed how & when I charge them (IMO: far superior to an amber or green dot). They already came with USB-C when purchased and seem to be working perfectly fine with my Apple tech. 9+ months now and they are still rockin'!

Assuming the extreme bargain means they are actually "junk" (which is TBD in actual use), I presume they will conk sooner than the 2+ years APPs lasted. If they do, I'll just shell out another $20 or so to buy another year or more than a year depending on when they actually conk.

I didn't expect cheapies to sound as good but since they do to my ears, I'll continue waiting for the next gen APPs... and- even when they are released- I'm now doubting I would pay 8X-10X+ more for them.

To each his own of course but there are plenty of fish in this sea. And anyone curious can test with their own ears for less than $17 right now.

On Amazon.de, they are also on sale at a price equivalent to $250, which matches their retail price in the US. (*sigh)

$159?

Are we absolutely certain Apple isn't going to trot out AirPods Pro 3 a week or two before Christmas, like they did with the original AirPods on December 13, 2016?

Airpods Pro 2 at this price will cannabilize sales of Airpods 4 with NC.

Doubt it. The original AirPods were announced in September that year and they were only as late as they were due to first gen production issues.

You should out these earbuds, I reviewed them on Amazon. I'm amazed they don't cost 5x more. Spectacular sound for budget earbuds.

You're not wrong... the electronics in most earbuds are pretty similar. The difference really is in the ecosystem support (like FindMy integration) and the software features like hearing test, spatial audio, adaptive transparency, etc. On a purely sound basis, yes, cheapies are probably very similar.
