So my Gen 1 Pro's are a little over 3 years old. Suddenly the right pod sounded busted. Did a search and found it was somewhat common. So I ordered a replacement pod from ebay which was refurbished and came in beautiful condition. Got it going and now I hear the left pod has a similar crackle that caused me to replace the right pod. UGH. Disappointed they both suddenly went to crap after treating them well and using them sporadically over the 3 year period. I'll get some Series 2 and take the loss on the replacement pod I purchased.

I had the same issue. It’s probably time to replace them anyway. They served their purpose for the length of the that I had them. Time to upgrade to the AirPods Pro 2 USB-C.

Does anyone know if this issue only occurred with the original Pros? I want to upgrade to the new Pro 3s but I don't want to if over 2-3 years and they have the same issue with static.

I just discovered today that my original Pro right AirPod has static. Tried cleaning, resetting, nothing works. Oh well. Light use indoors only. I'm pretty disappointed in this. No idea if it's that generation only. Definitely makes me think twice about buying more. My gen 2 regular AirPods are still going strong.

My left one has been exhibiting static for months, but it’s only for a few seconds after inserting them in the ear.

It’s a heavy static sound, like when the old TVs lost reception, but thankfully it goes within seconds

I also had the static issue with my right AirPod Pro 1. Bought new Pro 1 right before Pro 2 launched. They worked fine til recently. Despite cleaning them and the case, often the right won’t take a charge and often ‘beeps’ when inserting it. Ordered Pro 3s.
