I'm starting this thread to hopefully discuss Airpod pro vs Airpod pro 2 geometry and fit pre and post launch.

I'm one of those people whose ear geometry seems to be incompatible with the Airpods Pro. It seems like there are a lot of us based on threads I've read online. The airpods 1/2 form factor will stay in my ears all day as will the Airpods 3 but the Airpods Pro will gradually slide out of my ears regardless of the ear tip size used. I've had some success with aftermarket foam/comply ear tips but the early versions I bought kept popping off the Airpods and the procedure to insert them (compressing and waiting for them to expand) is less than ideal. I want to be able to take the Airpods out of my pocket and have them in my ears within seconds to answer a call.

I haven't found any sources that compare the geometry of the original Pro to the Pro 2; From the photos I see it looks like they're overall the same shape, with the only improvement being a fourth size of ear tip. I'm curious pre-launch if anyone has found any info on improved fit and hopefully post-launch people who had fit issues with the originals will post if the Pro 2's fit any better. I haven't ordered the Pro 2's yet but I probably will to test the fit knowing that I can return them if they don't work out.

Yes, this is me too, and I’m hoping the APP 2nd Gen is going to be better

I’ve bought Gen 1 twice in hopes that I just got a bum pair, and returned them twice unfortunately

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Gen 2 is better

I don’t have any concrete information on the exact dimensions. I did notice that on Apple’s website they do sell the eartips for the 1st generation and 2nd generation separately. This leads me to believe there is probably some difference in the dimensions.

I’m in this group. I loved the first gen APP but had to send them back because they kept pushing themselves out of my ears. Same with the 3rd gen regular APs.

I’ve optimistically ordered the APP 2 in the hope they will magically fit and all will be well with the world.

I noticed this too. I am also curious if my Comply Foam Tips for the AirPods Pro are 100% compatible with the AirPods Pro 2.

Edit: I contacted Apple Support and they say that the AirPods Pro 1st generation eartips are not interchangeable with the AirPods Pro 2nd generation. They couldn't tell me exactly what the difference is.

The fit is the same because shape and dimensions are the same.

Also, eartips from APP2 fit on APP1, I read that on reddit.

I got my Airpods Pro 2 today and I still have issues with the fit. (Same as I hade with the first gen unfortunately)
I bought the Spinfit CP 1025 and they worked great for me. I’ve emailed Spinfit today and see if they will fit with the second gen. Somebody who has tested with Spinfit and second gen Airpodo Pro 2yet?

The comply tip issue was something they acknowledged with their first run of the tips. They gave free ones to everyone who bought some. Their gen 2 of the tips for the APP have been great for me since they released them which i believe was 2-3 months after the original tips and people complained. Comply did right by every one who wrote in about the issue. I bought 2 packs of the tips, they replaced both packs AND 2 day'd them for FREE. I know replacing the tips is something thats expected but paying $15-20 for shipping that is unnecessary was unexpected.

I know you said you want to be able to pull them out and put them in but as someone who also has a picky ear that will force the ap3 / app's out by itself, the comply tips / memory foam tips are the best. It takes 5 secs to warm up the tips and roll them to put them in your ear. I would rather have app's with comply tips than not have them. Most other in ears dont fit my ear without comply tips anyway and app's are the best for me. They are well rounded in everything they do minus the mic. Looking forward to trying the APP2's Mic tomorrow.

All tips for the first gen fit the 2nd gen. Nothing changed as far as the "adapter" goes. My comply tips and a cheap memory brand from amazon fit my APP2's perfectly fine.

Reviewer on twitter said they fit great.

I saw comply updated them to snap fit but didn't realize they were doing free replacements. I may request them and give them a try again but they just aren't ideal for where airpods fit into my workflow. I like memory foam tips for applications where I prioritize a good seal over anything, where I usually leave them in for hours and don't need to put earbuds in quickly... I use them on a couple sets of shure in ear monitors I use and also for hearing protection that I use in manufacturing environments. The airpods / airpods pro are great for daily carry and easy/fast to insert for taking calls...but that five extra seconds to deal with the memory foam is the difference between answering a call and it going to voicemail. I've had good success with the first gen Bose quietcomfort earbuds; they're fast to put in and stay in my ears well. The downsides though are the case is really too large to comfortably 'everyday carry' and the lack of multipoint bluetooth is annoying. It looks like the second gen quietcomfort have a more pocketable case but no multipoint.

My intent wasn't to 'troubleshoot' the fit issue here but after looking at the Bose product page I think they might be onto something. Their new earbuds have not only different tip sizes but also 'stability band' sizes. I think the stability band might be the key; I don't have any issues with the airpods 3 even though they're very similar in shape to the airpods pro / pro2. I think on the pros the ear tips act as a spring pushing the airpods out of the ear canal, and the part of my ear opposite the canal that the airpods rest on must not be shaped in a way that it holds the airpods in properly. For me, any size tip will 'work' short term until the airpods gradually start sliding out of my ears. Being able to adjust the geometry of the airpods opposite the ear tips (in the way that Bose does with the stability bands') might be what it takes to make them compatible with more ears.

I'm a little disappointed that my AirPod Pro 2's fall out after a while no matter which size I use. The new 'xs' size is best for me out of all the supplied tips. But even those feel good and snug initially, but become loose if I smile/grin. Urrrrgh.

Anyhow - I'm looking at these "Comply" tips. But noticed that there's a subscription model of new tips every two months. Really? Do they not last long? I really don't want to be spending that amount every two months on ear tips!

These are my first AirPods - I've used BeatsX headphones for the gym for the last few years and they never fall out. Shame the tips from those don't fit the AirPods!

It all depends on how much you use them and your ears. I have a picky right ear and I use my airpods 25-30 hours a week. My right comply tip lasts about 3 months before its permanently compressed on one side and wont seal in my ear. My left one lasts ABOUT 6 months. What I've ended up doing is replacing my right one twice so I can replace the whole pair every ~6 months.

To me its worth the cost of them because I love the ease of use and everything that comes with my airpods and my other TWS in ears. But I also stock up when they run sales which is usually 2-3 times a year. I have stocked up during BOGO's and last year I believe they did a B1G1 50% off and I bought some sets then too for a few of my IEM's and TWS in ears.

If the price really bothers you that much, there are plenty of cheaper memory foam options all over Amazon. They might not last as long as complys do or might not compress / seal as well as complys do (this is what I love about them the most) but they will definitely fit your ears better than silicone will.

I've had my APP2 for a few days now. With the 1st gen, I needed to use the large tips to pass the fit test. Gen 2 came with the medium tips, and they pass the fit test.

I find that a bit interesting. Other than that, they sound fantastic.

They have a very similar shape but a little more rounded head, they definitely feel a little different, I think its also slightly lighter and the body seems like a different material, seems less substantial to the touch. The tip is a slightly denser rubber and quite harder to click. In my ears if fits more confortable than APP1 (also mentioned by many reviewers) but I also didn't have any problems with the first gen. ANC and Sound quality is much better.

Can someone try them and see if they fit better if you pull the ear up when you put them in? This opens the ear canal wider and you can push them in deeper. I stumbled across this tip yesterday on the Internet and was able to reproduce it with my Beats fit Pro.

Ahhhh - this is interesting. Thanks for the explanation! I saw that they were memory foam, but didn't realise that they would eventually get permanently compressed and need replacing. Makes sense now.

I knew I wanted to upgrade from the BeatsX a year ago, and have been waiting patiently for the second gen AirPods since then. And after getting them, I really do love the features, so it was super annoying when I couldn't get them to stay in lol.

I'll give these Comply tips a try, though. If they fix the issue, and I have to buy new ones every few months, I guess it's worth it. Thanks again!

I read somewhere (maybe here) that the mesh is different and that it wouldn't give you the same user experience if you used old ones. Sound a bit weak and more of an excuse to sell more eartips.
