airport/ethernet connections

OK. Let's see if I can explain this properly.

I've got an airport express. Whenever I wanna go wireless I take that ethernet cord from the base and put it in the cable modem.

Whenever I want to use my ethernet to my computer, I put a different cord from my modem to my computer.

But now whenever I attempt to use my wireless, I can never get a connection to it now. Any ideas?
