AirPort Express and harddrive - why not?

Hi,
I know that you can not connect hard drive (hard disc) to AirPort Express but I wonder WHY ??

I understand that Apple limit Express on purpose otherwise nobody would buy Exterme.


But is there any real limit in hardware of AirPort Express that would not permit harddrive to work?

or limit is in the Apple software? or in firmware of AirPort Express?
