My setup consists of the following:
12" Powerbook 1.33Ghz
31" Gateway Destination Monitor
Harman Kardon AVR 330 Surround Reciever
In my bedroom, I have my old gateway destination monitor hooked to my powerbook using a VGA to mini-DVI adaptor. For sound I have a set of Creature speakers hooked to the mini-jack. When the airport express came out I got really excited because it seemed that I would be able to get rid of the cables to my speakers and hook my powerbook up to the surround system wirelessly. I watch DVDs on the Destination screen and they are pretty much flawless. (I would like to have a nice HDTV setup but its not in the budget) Unfortunately, it seems that the APX doesn't work for DVDs. What would be the best solution for my setup?
1. Sonica Transit using optical passthrough to my reciever
2. Sonica Theater-Im not sure if this is better or the transit (I read that this one works as an external sound card and Im not sure that the transit does)
3. Airport Express- Wait for apple or a third party vendor to create a software package that will synch audio latency to the apx with the video output. This is most appealing to me because it is wireless.
Also, I have been thinking of adding TV capability to this setup. Would you get an Elgato Eye TV 200 or just put this money toward and nice HDTV and TivoToGo and forget it? All this stuff is really neat but I hate all the cables coming out of my powerbook...
