HomeKit Airport Express as a HomeKit Hub

Hey guys, I’ve done a lot of reading, but can’t find anything specific to this.

Can you use the APE (with AirPlay2) as a HomeKit hub instead of an ATV or a HomePod?

Lots of info about it being used for audio streaming etc and that it ties into HomeKit, but not as the hub. I’d like to setup some automation and I don’t have the ATV, HomePod or iPad for this function.

Unfortunately no. Currently only Apple TV, HomePod and iPad can act as HomeKit hubs. The firmware update the express got a while back just gave it the ability to be an airplay 2 target. If I had to guess it’d be because of the hardware requirements needed to act as a hub, as there are limitations even with the 3rd gen Apple TV (doesn’t allow for remote access to homekit cameras or shared users)
