Airport Express as Airplay only device

Hello. I am curious if I can use an Airport Express as an Airplay only device?? I want to stream music to my AVR from my Mac all within the same room. Currently the Airplay signal has to go from nearly one end of my apartment (bedroom) to the other end (living room) and back again to go from my Mac to my Apple TV. Both of which are in the same room. It's my Airport Extreme (and Rogers modem) which are in the living room. Is this a possible option?

absolutely, I have one doing just that. After you have it initialy set up and connected to your existing network, you can in AirPort utility set the wireless network to "off" and enable it as an AirPlay device.

So in iTunes when I click on the Airplay button would the Express show up there? I can still use my current network for the internet?
