hi Guys:, I have a 120mb internet and i use a Netgear router ,dual band ,which gives me around 100/105 mb wirelessly in my house downstairs but once i use my MBP upstairs it drops to 18-20 mb and sometimes it just stalls for a long, so I was thinking of Apple airport express as an Extender to my network

and my question is will the Express pick my network wirelessly and extend it ?or would it need to be connected to my Netgear router via an ethernet cable in order to do so (and thus defeat the purpose on not extending wires)

many thanks

you will either need an airport (extreme or express) as your main base, or to run an ethernet cable to the express.

so that means the airport will not recognize anything wirlessley apart for airpot (extreme or express) or it would not extend anything apart for airport (extreme /express)

it will join the network from any router, (like your computer or phone does) giving you access to airplay,a printer, and the ethernet port.

but to wirelessly extend the network, the main base must be an airport.

so...
main base ---wireless--> express ---wireless--> computers

the main base must be an airport.

--------------------

main base ---wired--> express ---wireless--> computers
---wireless--> computer

will work from any router.

--------------------

and for what it's worth....

main base ---wireless--> express ---wired--> computers
will work from any router.

Many thanks for the illustration , Now I get it
cheers for that
