Long time lurker, first time poster.
I am setting up a music server at home and just ordered an Airport Express. The server is a Dell Optiplex running XP SP3. This is connected to a Dell network switch plugged in to an Apple Time Capsule. The server has a fresh, clean XP install with only iTunes 10 installed. I just finished ripping 90GB of CDs to the server encoded in the lossless format. The toslink output of the AE will be connected to a Theta DAC.
I have a few questions regarding the setup:
Can I connect the AE to my network switch via RJ-45 and stream to it in a wired configuration?
-Or-
Should I connect the AE to directly to the server via RJ-45?
