AirPort Express + external hard drive = Time Machine backup?

If I buy a USB external hard drive, can I plug it in to my AirPort Express and use it as a backup drive for use with Time Machine?

Not officially. Apple doesn't support it and you have to hack the drive to work. I'm not sure how hay is accomplished but I'm sure that others do.

When Time Machine first became available, it would not work with AirPort disks.

Several months later, it became an officially supported feature. Just make sure your computer and your AirPort has all appropriate software updates and it will work with no trouble.

AppleCare will now officially support this configuration, whereas when Leopard first came out, they would not support it.

yes im certain it will work. beats a Time Capsule hands down! (they are bad news lately)
