I have a Verizon Fios router that covers most of the house but is spotty in areas. I am looking to buy the airport express to solve some issues and would like to know if this will work or not.
The whole House is wired with Cat5e cable which terminates in the basement at a 10 port network hub 10/100mbs. I only have windows PC's / laptops but have 5 Ipad / iPhone / iPod products.
Current FIOS WIFI router is downstairs by the TV which is connect via Ethernet cable to a Samsung smart TV.
How I want to reconfigure the system:
1) Move the Fios WIFI router to the 2nd floor front bedroom (fixes spotty Wi-Fi 2nd floor).
2) Connect the Ethernet LAN port from the Fios router to the hub in the basement (cat5e cable).
3) Connect the Hub in the basement to the Ethernet wall jack by the TV (cat5e cable).
4) Connect the Airport express to the wall LAN jack via Ethernet cable.
5) Connect the smart TV to the Airport Express LAN Jack (Ethernet cable).
6) Connect the Stereo receiver to the Optical out on the Airport Express.
7) Have the airport express provide a wireless network to the downstairs and backyard for laptops and apple Ipad / iPhone / iPod.
It appears that I can do this if I configure the airport express with the same SSID and Password as the FIOS router this should work. However I cannot find a straight forward answer on the Internet.
Any help on getting this done would be greatly appreciated.
A) I want to stream music from my apple devices (using Air Play) from everywhere in the house and the backyard and send it to my Stereo receiver using the optical digital port on the airport express (whole house is wired to my stereo receiver).
B) I want to extend the wireless network to clean up the spotty Wi-Fi issues I have especially on the 2nd floor for my apple devices and my windows PC's / Laptops.
C) I want to be able to roam the entire house / property with Wi-Fi devices seamlessly.
