Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and broadcast a Wifi signal though it using an ethernet cable. However, I really don't like the fact my laptop is on 12 hours a day and I can't use it if I need to move it around (since its connected to Ethernet cable). I have an Ipad 3 and an Iphone 5 which both connect to Wifi to do simple task. My college Wifi is horrible and my University will not fix it. This makes my Ipad unusable and Iphone unusable in my dorm room (no Wifi or either really slow). I have a few questions:

1) How does the range of an Airport Express compare to the MacBook Pro 13" Wifi?

2) Would an Airport Extreme have a faster throughput compared to the Airport Express?

you should get as good, if not better range and throughput from the express.

be sure to check your college IT departments rules for adding base stations, sometimes they can be a bit restrictive on what they allow.
