Hey! I'm running 10.7.2 on an 11.6 MacBook Air, with a USB ethernet adapter, which is connected to a router, which is connected to an Airport Express, which is connected to a hifi.
I've been connecting to the same router wirelessly up to now, but this is prone to audio dropouts both in iTunes and using airfoil, perhaps because there are billions of wireless devices within 20 feet.
So I bought the USB ethernet adapter to see if a wired connection worked better (it does on other other laptops here).
After some trouble I've managed to connect to the internet via the adapter. But unfortunately when I'm connected via ethernet, iTunes and airfoil are failing to detect the presence of the Airport express.
When I connect via ethernet cable from other laptops (ie. without needing a USB adapter), iTunes and airfoil detect the Airport express just fine.
I have no idea how to even begin debugging something like this, so I'd really appreciate some pointers.
One thing I did try was manually configuring the IPv4 details on the Macbook Air to match the auto-generated details of a Macbook which did work. But that was just a stab in the dark. As I said, I have no idea how to even describe the problem.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
